Reformation Day

I don't know about you but I am getting in the Reformation Day spirit ! I even bought a CD of Hymns today because it has A Mighty Fortress Is Our God on it. That really has been getting me in the Reformation Day Mood! Anyway in the Reformation Day spirit I want to share my new favorite hymn with you. Also please note there is a poll on the right where you vote on if you believe it is right or wrong for Christians to celebrate Halloween ( I got the idea for the poll from brother J. Wendall the Earnest Contender). If you still want to join in that debate scroll a few posts down. Anyway Happy Reformation Day!

A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing:
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate,On earth is not his equal.
Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing;
Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God’s own choosing:
Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth, His Name, from age to age the same,And He must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us:
The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him;
His rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure,One little word shall fell him.

That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth;
The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him Who with us sideth:
Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also;
The body they may kill: God’s truth abideth still,His kingdom is forever.

Happy Reformation Day, indeed.

I was going to take your poll, but there was not a choice I could make.

I do not believe Christians should celebrate Halloween in the same sense that we celebrate Christmas.

Just as many words have more than one meaning, Halloween does, too.

To dress as a Bible or imaginary character and go trick-or-treating is not the same as identifying with demonic activity in dress and spirit.

We can get so far into the "Halloween" is evil thing that we remove from life those things that are just plain fun.

Monopoly is too materialistic. Parchisi is too Eastern mysticalistic. Crazy 8s is too much like a card game, and therefore too much like gambling.

There absolutely HAS to be a balance somewhere, else we become nothing more than legalistic, mystical, religionists.

I can't wait! I've got a basket of tulips to give to the trick-or-treaters sitting by the door.
I'll also be giving out copies of the 95 Theses and The Institutes.
